You can export customizations from a server that is running Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 with Update Rollup 2 or a later update rollup. Then, you can import those customizations to a server that has Update Rollup 18 installed. You can also export customizations from a server that is running Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 with Update Rollup 18 installed. Then, you can import those customizations to a server that has Update Rollup 2 or a later update rollup installed.

If you export customizations from a server that is running Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0, you must not import the customizations to the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 server in the following scenarios:

• The Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 server that you use to export the customizations has no updates installed. Or, it has only Update Rollup 1 for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 installed. However, the server that you use to import the customizations has only Update Rollup 18 for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 installed.
• The Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 server that you use to export the customizations has only Update Rollup 18 for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 installed. However, the server that you use to import the customizations has no updates installed. Or, it has only Update Rollup 1 for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 installed.
