I have been trying to setup a full DAX 2009 installation using MS SQL 2008 and found the following; The database engine works fine with DAX 2009, but DAX 2009 does not work with SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services and SQL Server 2008 Analysis Services. You will be unable to install the Reporting Extensions from the DVD if you are using SQL 2008. For SSAS, you will notice the problems when trying to process the cubes. This means that if you would like to use the role centers in DAX 2009, you have to use SQL Server 2005 for now.
Sorry Microsoft, this is NOT good enough. Hopefully, this will be fixed soon.
